Girl groups come and go, but Krave hopes that talent, sisterhood and teaming up with some of the industry’s hottest stars will give the trio staying power.

Jasmine “Jazzy” Kearse, 21; Shanquilla “Shan Q” Robinson, 21, and Chanel Ross, 20, make up Krave, which has released several singles off their debut, self-titled album due out in September. “Up & Down” features Pit Bull and Lil John, with Akon, Nelly and Twista on “Go Crazy” and the remix.

Ross described the album as “a bag full of goodies.”

“We have everything,” she said. “We’re doing it in a way that everyone can relate to it—West Coast, East Coast, down South. We infuse all types of music.”

Devyne Stephens, CEO of Upfront Megatainment, discovered Krave four years ago. Stephens, who has worked with Ciara, Mary J. Blige and Boyz II Men, approached the singers after seeing them perform at a high school talent show in Atlanta.

“One day we just decided to take it serious and pursue our dreams and we did this talent show,” Kearse said. Stephens was impressed and offered them a record deal.

Krave boasts that it has no lead singer and that each member gets a chance to showcase her talent.

“We bring three different elements to the table,” Robinson said. “I’m the rapper. Jazz is the R&B sensation. Chanel’s like the alternative head. We’re all leaders in our areas.”

In addition to filling the girl group void in the music industry, Krave has something else on its agenda.

“We really want to bring back sisterhood and unity,” Robinson explained. “Krave means desire, but to us it represents confidence, sisterhood, unity, respect—all of those qualities that represent a woman.”
